2010 Lenten Art Exhibit
In conjunction with the Lenten theme of “I Hunger for You,” Hope's art committee has planned several activities to encourage us to explore the ways we hunger for God and the ways that God responds to our hunger. The five areas of focus during worship will be that we hunger for life, acceptance, forgiveness, strength and a place to meet God.
The following activities will occur throughout Lent:
Meet and greet our guest artist Jeanne McCormick. Please take time to meet and talk with Jeanne McCormick as she visits us during Holy Week. Jeanne was a student in the fine arts department of the College for Creative Studies. She also has a degree in Early Childhood Development from Wayne State University and a degree in Fine Arts from Madonna University.
She has a great appreciation for Native American People and as a result was the only non-Native American artist invited to participate at a Pow-Wow at Fort Wayne in Detroit. Her interest in portraits has continued and she now has a collection entitled, “Portraits of Peace” which include Mother Teresa, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Gandhi, Chief Joseph and Jesus. Her most recent passion includes the making of icons, which is a very time consuming and spiritual experience. Please ask Jeanne about her work. She loves to share her knowledge and passion with others! See more of Jeanne’s work, visit her website at www.livingartwork2005.com.
• The Lenten Art Exhibit will be held March 21–April 4. This is an opportunity to create and submit artwork that expresses something of a religious nature; paintings, needlework, pottery, photography, drawings, stain-glass art, poems, etc. Registration forms are available online or at the welcome desk. All entry forms and projects need to be at the church by Sunday, March 14. A maximum 3 entries per person.

• A Sunday school room has been converted into a prayer room; check it out, it's truly been transformed into a peaceful sanctuary! People are encouraged to visit this room throughout the Lenten season for a personal time of reflection. Various meditative guides, activities and visuals are present. The prayer room is available Monday through Friday from 9am–3pm, and when evening activities occur such as Tuesday evenings 7–8:30pm and Wednesday evenings 3:00–8:00pm.
• A Tour of Historic Churches is planned for Sunday, March 21. Plan on having lunch in the family center at 12:00 noon, then carpool to Detroit. The tour will begin at 1:30pm. We will be visiting Mariners' Church, St. Aloysius Parish, St. John Episcopal and Central United Methodist, all in Downtown Detroit. We must know you are participating by Friday, March 19; please contact Becky Gee.
• A multi-generational art project – Adults, youth and children of all ages can decorate plates using paints and permanent markers during two consecutive Wednesday evenings, March 3 and March 10, from 5:30–8:00pm. This activity will help us focus on how we long for God to fill us with what we need and not necessarily what we want; we ask God to come and fill our plates. Please note: You may come anytime during these hours and use as much time as you need. You do not need to attend both nights. The cost of the activity is $3 per plate. Our plan is to display the decorated plates during the Art Exhibit.
