New Fall Sunday School Cirriculum
Faith SPARK!
Amazingly, the 2009-2010 school year is over and yet it feels like it just began. More amazingly, the 2010-2011 school year will be here before we know it. To prepare for the upcoming year, Pastor Brad, Pastor Lauren, Becky Gee and Linda Morin took a look at the past year’s program, reviewed our goals and listened to your input. From that, we have decided to make a few exciting changes that we believe will benefit our 2010-2011 Sunday School program.
During the Sunday School learning hour, our goal is to help lay a firm faith foundation in every child that has been entrusted to us. Each week another little seed is planted to deepen a child’s understanding of God’s story in the Bible. Faith5! provided that in a musical and joyous way; that tradition will continue, but each week will be a different experience.
These new experiences also come with a new name: Faith SPARK. The name implies exactly what we hope happens each week in our children – a spark of faith is planted and is allowed to grow! The planning material for the program will come from Augsburg Fortress SPARK Online and will allow greater flexibility in programming from week to week. It will also allow teachers and families to look at lessons online and download information.
Some logistic changes are being made to enable teachers to interact more individually with their students. Students will be dropped off and picked up in their classrooms instead of the Family Center. After assembling in the classroom and gathering the offering for the service project, a large group experience will take place with music, drama, games and other exciting activities. The second half of the class will be in the classroom doing a tailored workshop for the theme of that day. The overall theme for 2010-2011 will be “Characters of the Old Testament.”
For middle schoolers, a new curriculum is being evaluated and will be purchased by fall. They will still have the options of being helpers, performing in Creative Drama (similar to Readers’ Theater) or participating in the new curriculum.
To allow everyone to take a look at Faith SPARK, a computer lab will be set up by the end of August that will demonstrate the program’s capabilities. When running, you will be invited to participate in a brief workshop in the lab, before and after 9:30am service.
As we plan the upcoming Sunday School program, please keep the team and the program in your prayers. Also, prayerfully consider being a part of the program. We are really looking forward to this exciting new program – we hope you are too!
